Uses the stable 8:1 horizontal coordinate ratio. The result is a target, not a guaranteed link; portal search, height, terrain, and existing portals still matter.

Before you light it
The useful rule—and its limit
Overworld → Nether: divide X and Z by 8. Nether → Overworld: multiply X and Z by 8. Keep Y as a practical reference; Minecraft does not scale it.
The result is a horizontal target, not a guaranteed link. Nearby existing portals, height, terrain, edition, and game-version behavior can change the chosen destination. The network warning is deliberately conservative: it flags Nether targets less than 16 horizontal blocks apart so you know where to test carefully.
For the cleanest result, build near the suggested X/Z, choose a safe Y, then walk through both ways and verify the pair before decorating the tunnel.
