How Minecraft brewing works

Bottles, batches, and fuel

A brewing stand processes up to three bottles together. One ingredient is used for each operation, even if you put only one bottle in the stand. For four bottles, this calculator plans a full batch of three and a second batch of one.

Blaze Powder goes in the fuel slot. One powder supplies 20 brewing operations, not 20 complete multi-step recipes. Strength potions also use Blaze Powder as an ingredient in the top slot; both uses are included in the supply list.

Fuel totals assume one stand with no fuel already loaded. Using several stands may require extra powder because each stand stores its own remaining fuel.

Awkward Potions and modifiers

Most routes begin by adding Nether Wart to Water Bottles. That produces Awkward Potions. If you already have those, choose that starting bottle to exclude the Nether Wart operation from your plan.

Weakness is the exception in this recipe set: Fermented Spider Eye is added directly to Water Bottles. For a splash Potion of Weakness, add Gunpowder afterward.

Redstone extends supported effects; Glowstone strengthens supported effects. This planner offers them as alternatives. Gunpowder makes a splash potion, and Dragon’s Breath turns a splash potion into a lingering potion.

How do I brew a potion to cure a zombie villager?

Choose the “Curing a villager” preset: Water Bottle → Fermented Spider Eye → Gunpowder. Use the resulting splash Potion of Weakness on the zombie villager, then feed it a golden apple. The golden apple is used afterward and is not a brewing ingredient.

Why can’t I extend a Potion of Healing?

Healing is an instant effect, so there is no ongoing duration to extend with Redstone. Choose the stronger variant with Glowstone if you want Instant Health II.

Will these times match Bedrock, splash, and lingering potions?

The ingredient routes here are shared vanilla recipes, but the displayed effect times use Java drinkable potions as a reference. Some Bedrock times differ; splash distance and lingering exposure also change the practical result. Check the item tooltip in your edition.

Does the checklist control Minecraft?

No. It is a planning checklist in your browser. You still place the bottles and ingredients in-game. Changing the recipe, quantity, or starting bottles clears the checklist so completed steps do not carry into a different plan.
